‘YOU’ Season 5 Cast Reveals Who Could Finally Take Down Joe Goldberg: From Wonder Woman to Tony Soprano

At the New York premiere of YOU Season 5, red carpet chatter wasn’t just about Joe Goldberg’s return to the city.. It was about who, if anyone, could actually take him down. The cast had some ideas….

Elizabeth Lail, who originated the role of Guinevere Beck in Season 1 and makes a brief return in the final chapter, didn’t hesitate.

“We’re going with Wonder Woman,” she said. “She wouldn’t fall for it. She’d do the lasso, truth serum and then he’d be confronted with his personal shame, which I do think he has.”

For Lail, it had to be a woman and not the kind Joe thinks he can fix.

“It has to be a powerful woman. It has to be like, ‘I don’t need you to fix me.’”

Natasha Behnam, who joins the final season as Dominique, paused to think but delivered a fantastic answer.

“Okay, hold on. What bad bitch women can I think of?” she said. “I don’t know why this is coming to mind, but Meg from Hercules. You know what? Is it just because I’m gay that she came into my head? She wouldn’t let him do anything.”

And she’s right — Megara did not fall for Hercules and that guy was a greek god. Its fair to say, Joe Goldberg wouldn’t have stood a chance with that diva.

Tom Francis, who plays Clayton in Season 5 had a very different thought process but it absolutely would have worked.

“Tony Soprano,” he said without missing a beat. “It’s got to be Tony Soprano. Or Gru from Despicable Me. It depends on the setup,” he added. “What kind of weapons does Joe have? Can he catch people by surprise or not? ”

Two very different men with two very specific vibes but in Francis’ mind, both are capable of taking Joe down. We would argue Tony Soprano is one of the only people who would have handled Joe Goldberg correctly.

B, who plays Phoenix took the gloves off and choose a character impossible for Joe to defeat.

“I want to see Joe go toe to toe with the Hulk,” they said. “There’s no hope for Joe. He can’t manipulate his way. He can’t love his way. No, no, no. You’re done. It’s done. It’s done for Joe.”

The consensus? It’s going to take someone big, powerful and who is incapable of falling for Joe Goldberg’s literary murder romance schemes.

YOU Season 5 is out now on Netflix and before you binge-watch we made a refresher to recount ALL of Joe Goldberg’s crimes. So take a trip down memory lane and grab some snacks. The last ride with Joe Goldberg is a WILD one.
